Dilemma in Tanguar Haor: Seeta and Geeta face off Reeta

  • Dilemma in Tanguar Haor: Seeta and Geeta face off Reeta - $10 Physics project

Sylhet is the smallest city in Bangladesh but is enriched with natural beauty and historic culture. Tanguar Haor is considered to be one of the most beautiful and tranquil places in Sylhet division.

Seeta, Geeta and Reeta are three best friends who used to roam the streets of Tanguar Hoar. The trio were really famous among their friends and in their society. They belonged to the elite families who had the only 8 storied building (named Rosemary) in that area. There were frequent cases of water crisis in the area where they resided.

More than 2 million people in Bangladesh lack access to an improved water source and nearly about 48 million lack improved sanitation.

Seeta and Geeta were sisters and stayed at the top floor while Reeta stayed on the 1st floor. On a hot, scorching day, a fire broke out in a nearby departmental store, which was about 15 meters away from the building. Due to the water crisis, only residents of the Rosemary building actively used pipes to force out water off taps from their balconies. Water from all the floors failed to extinguish the fire. Seeta and Geeta were shocked to see that the water from Reeta's apartment was the only way that reached the burning store and stopped the fire. After the fire halted, the sisters faced Reeta and asked her how it happened?

Now, for this project, please do the following:

By applying Physics Concepts, give response as Reeta would have given to make the sisters understand.

The person with the best, clear, easy to understand and non plagiarized answer will get $10. Runner-up will get $5. Please try to explain your answer to a non-technical audience with zero physics knowledge.  So its not what you say, but how you say it to make your answer easy to read and understand!

--Project concept designed by Hans Ankur, Physics Teacher

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The winner of this project is:

    Tanveer Tausif Ratul (Winner, $10)

Tanveer went that extra mile and added his own hand written drawing to clarify the concept in this project. His description was also very easy to understand with lots of interesting and real life examples, so everyone was able to relate to it. No complex description either, which was an added bonus!  Hence, he has been selected as the winner. He earned $10. Read his full project here

The runner-up of this project is:

    Siam Mahmud (Runner-up, $5)

Siam also went that extra mile and added lots of pictures and visuals to understand the concept in this project.  There is a saying that a picture is worth a thousand words, so these were good additions to his project rather than just writing the answer. There was a section where he tried to describe a law, which  got quite complicated, but other than that, the answer was interesting with good visuals for anyone to understand. He earned $5. The person with 3rd best answer:

    Ahnaf Niyaz (4th best, $3)

We selected Ahnaf simply because his answer was like a story with lots of good sense of humor.  It is okay to add good sense of humor to your answer rather than just give us cut and dry answer (which just answers the question). Going that extra mile with visual and good sense of humor with real life examples gives you more points as everyone can relate to it and it resonates well with anybody. That is why we decided to give Ahnaf $3. Read his full project here

The person with the 4th best answer:

    Wafeeqa Hoque (4th best, $3)

Wafeeqa's answer was the most scientifically correct and that is why she came up in the top 4. Even though it did not have any visuals or any other extra enhancements like we mentioned above with the other contributors, it was very nicely written to clarify the scientific concepts.  So in the end, we all enjoyed reading it. She won $3. Read her full project here

All the other answers were nice too, so we want to thank everyone for their submissions. For future reference, we want to mention this, so everyone can try their best next time:  try to go that extra mile to make your project unique instead of just giving us the answer.  Feel free to add sense of humor, good practical examples without being too complex, visuals and pictures to make your project look unique and creative and different than the others.  And we of course need answer that is scientifically correct in these kinds of projects. Thanks to all!
